Marathon will delay some traffic

The Flying Pig Marathon will close streets or limit traffic early Sunday, so if you're driving to church along the route or to the 1:15 p.m. Reds game, you may need extra time for detours. The committee contacted churches in November and have been working on routes, said Cincinnati Police Sgt. Mike Hopper.
Planning and the early start mean traffic shouldn't get too snarled, police say.
To avoid problems, Cincinnati's traffic engineer is suggesting that Reds traffic take Columbia Parkway east to Pike Street, then head south on Pike, west on Fourth Street to Broadway, and take Broadway to the Cinergy Field area.
Here's what will be closed from 6 a.m. until about 8 a.m. Sunday:
• Walnut Street between Seventh and Fourth streets.
• Sixth Street between Main and Vine streets.
• Fifth Street between Vine and Main streets.
In other areas, traffic will not be allowed to go in the same direction as the race course. Generally, though, traffic will be allowed in the opposite direction of the course and drivers will be able to cross the course with the help of a police officer or race volunteer.
Here are routes that runners will take, affecting those streets during part of the day:
• Walnut Street from Fourth Street to Central Parkway.
• Central Parkway from Walnut Street to Ezzard Charles Drive.
• Ezzard Charles Drive from Central Parkway to Western Avenue.
• Linn Street from Ezzard Charles Drive to Third Street.
• Third Street from Gest Street to the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge. The race goes over the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge into Covington.
• Fifth Street in Covington will be closed from Main Street to Garrard Street. Runners will cross the Memorial Bridge, take Fifth Street in Newport to Saratoga Street, go south on Saratoga Street to Fourth Street, east on Fourth Street to south on York Street. Runners return to Cincinnati across the Taylor Southgate Bridge and go east on Pete Rose Way, up Eggleston Avenue to Central Parkway and then north on Reading Road.
Back in Cincinnati, drivers will have to accommodate runners on these streets:
• Reading Road, from Eggleston Avenue to Elsinore Avenue.
• Elsinore Avenue, from Reading Road to Gilbert Avenue.
• Gilbert Avenue, from Elsinore Avenue to Eden Park Drive.
• Eden Park Drive, from Gilbert Avenue to Victory Parkway.
• Victory Parkway, from Eden Park Drive to McMillan Street.
• McMillan Street from Victory Parkway to Woodburn Avenue.
• Woodburn Avenue, from McMillan Street to Madison Road.
• Madison Road, from Woodburn Avenue to Observatory Avenue.
• Observatory Avenue, from Madison Road to Edwards Road.
• Edwards Road, from Observatory Avenue to Erie Avenue.
• Erie Avenue, from Edwards Road to Brotherton Road.
• Red Bank Road, from Brotherton Road to Wooster Road.
• Wooster Pike from Columbia Parkway to Beechmont Circle.
• Beechmont Circle, from Wooster Pike to Wilmer Avenue.
• Wilmer Avenue, from Beechmont Circle to Kellogg Avenue.
• Kellogg Avenue, from Wilmer Avenue to Delta Avenue/Eastern Avenue.
• Eastern Avenue, from Delta Avenue to Eggleston Avenue.
