Cincinnati Bell avoids strike
Cincinnati Bell averted a threatened strike late Saturday night after reaching a tentative agreement with a union representing its employees.
About 2,000 workers, from field technicians to operators, had authorized a strike for when their contract expired at midnight. But more than an hour before that deadline Saturday, negotiators announced they had come to terms on a new pact, said Libby Korosec, Cincinnati Bell spokeswoman.
Details of the tentative deal, which still face final approval, were not available late Saturday. The workers affected are in the Communications Workers of America union locals 4400 and 4401.
The tentative deal will avert delays in some services that a strike may have caused, Ms. Korosec said. Management would have been called in to fill some key posts.
Union officials have said the top issues were improved job-security language in the contract and changes in the retirement plan.
