GET TO IT

A guide to help make your day

Going out
        • Cheap date: Fifty cents gets you into National Active Older Adults Day, 9 a.m-noon at Gamble-Nippert YMCA in Westwood. Get your blood pressure taken, or strrrrr-etch with your friends at Stretch Without Strain or Seniors in Motion classes. 661-1105.

        • Oh, deer: Learn how to co-exist with the deer, the state of Ohio's official mammal, at the Urban Deer Program 7 p.m. today, Winton Centre Auditorium in Winton Woods, Springfield Township. Free (parking $1). 521-7275.

Staying in
        • Critic's picks: Yada, yada, yada. The Seinfeld episode which popularized that phrase, uttered to paper over unpleasant details, repeats today on WSTR-TV (7:30 p.m., Channel 64). And TV Critic John Kiesewetter also notes that Dr. Church (Sheryl Lee) is seriously hurt in a car crash on the season finale of L.A. Doctors (10 p.m., Channels 12, 7).

        • Web site of the day: At www.MyFamily.com set up a private family Web site. Post news headlines on the main page that links to more detailed information. You can develop a joint calendar, and there's a secure chat area. There's even an online photo album.

Week of the week
        • White-glove time: Celebrate National Etiquette Week by signing up the kids, grades 3-5, for “Etiquette for Tomorrow” classes, taught June 19, 26 and 29 at the Cincinnati Art Museum by Lelia Boyd, a graduate of the Protocol School of Washington. $125 please, and thank you. 753-9143.

        • The right stuff. Sure, her husband circled Earth in space capsules twice in his life, but observers say Annie Glenn faced a challenge just as difficult: overcoming stuttering. The wife of retired astronaut/senator John Glenn is 1999 honorary chair of National Stuttering Awareness Week, which begins today. Info: National Stuttering Foundation, (800) 992-9392.

What's in stores today
        • Ouchie stickers: No more flesh-colored bandages for this colorfast generation. Kids can cover their cuts and scrapes with tattoo bandages (last year's rage) and new Sticker Creations bandages (this year's offering) from Band-Aid. A packet of 25 bandages includes 50 do-it-yourself stickers — pandas, stars, hearts, aliens, peace signs, race cars, guitars. About $2.

Planning ahead
        • A day away: Take a sightseeing cruise along the Ohio River with BB Riverboats, 10 a.m., noon, 2 and 4 p.m. Depart from Newport Aquarium Dock. $5-$9. 261-8500.

        • 48 hours out: The Riverbend season opens Wednesday with Lenny Kravitz, the Black Crowes and Everlast. Music starts 8 p.m. $20-$42.50. 562-4949.

        • 72 hours 'til Thursday: Lions and tigers and Ted, oh my! CNN founder Ted Turner talks about his other passion, saving endangered species, when he accepts the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden's Wildlife Conservation Award 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Rockdale Temple, Amberley Village. $5 ($8 at the door). 559-7767.
