Sentencing postponed for former reporter
A former Cincinnati Enquirer reporter will have to wait at least another two months to learn his sentence for illegally accessing voice-mail messages from Chiquita Brands International Inc.
A judge has agreed to postpone the sentencing of former reporter Michael Gallagher until after the trial of a defendant in a related case.
Mr. Gallagher, who was scheduled for sentencing Thursday, has pleaded guilty to two felony charges accusing him of illegally accessing Chiquita's voice-mail system.
Judge Richard Niehaus delayed the sentencing until the conclusion of the trial of George Ventura, a former Chiquita lawyer also charged with illegally accessing the system.
Mr. Gallagher has identified Mr. Ventura as a source for articles he wrote last year about Chiquita's business practices. The Enquirer later fired Mr. Gallagher, renounced the articles and paid Chiquita more than $10 million.
