Summer bus fares will drop to 50¢ from airport to Kings Island
BY TANYA ALBERT
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Fifty cents can get you from the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport to Paramount's Kings Island this summer. Or points between and around.
Just grab a bus.
Metro and the Transit Au thority of Northern Kentucky (TANK) are each offering a 50-cent summer Clean Air Fare between June 1 and Labor Day and dropping the 30- to 40-cent transfer charge.
It's all part of the effort to get people out of their cars and onto the bus during the height of smog season.
The goal here is to try to make bus riding as easy as possible, Metro General Manager Paul Jablonski said. You pay 50 cents, get on the bus, ask for a transfer and get on the next bus.
More than 700 people transfer from TANK buses to Metro buses in Ohio on an average day. About 600 riders transfer from Metro to TANK buses daily.
Depending where bus commuters are coming from, the summer fare will help a passenger save up to $1 on Metro and 25 cents on TANK. If the commuter is transferring systems, they also save the transfer charges.
Total possible savings round-trip: $2.65
We wanted to make a big impact in both Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, TANK spokeswoman Gina Shipley-Douthat said.
Other summer bus deals:
Single-system passes are $20 a month during June, July and August. Metro passes are usually $32 to $56. TANK passes are normally $30.
Passes valid on both sys tems will be $10 cheaper during the summer months, $35 rather than $45.
This is the first time TANK has offered the 50-cent summer fare, made possible by federal Congestion, Mitigation and Air Quality funding. Metro has offered it since 1994.
Reduced fares do not apply to event service.
