Mason hires Herman's Hermits

Oldies favorite featured during Heritage fest

The Cincinnati Enquirer

MASON — With hopes of improving 1998's record attendance of 35,000 visitors, organizers have chosen Herman's Hermits as the musical headliner for this year's Heritage Festival.

The theme for the 1999 festival is “Through the Years: A Look at Our Community.”

“Every year, our goal is to gather as many people as we can from the community and the Tristate at the festival,” said Vickie Larcomb, festival committee chair. “This year, we wanted to do something really special by bringing in a big-name group. We've heard they do put on a really good show.”

Herman's Hermits, starring Peter Noone, will perform at the Heritage Festival on Aug. 28. The band's evening show will end the day's 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. activities.

The band has had 23 top-20 hits, including “Mrs. Brown, You've Got a Lovely Daughter.”

This year's festival is sponsored by the city, J.W. Harris Co., Mitsubishi and Pepsi Bottling Co. of Hamilton. The event started in 1965, when the city celebrated its 150th anniversary. It has been held annually since 1968.

The Heritage festival has one of the area's largest parades, hundreds of arts, crafts and food booths, and family activities.
