Twelve injured in 10-vehicle pileup

The Associated Press and The Cincinnati Enquirer

MAYSVILLE, Ky. — Twelve people were injured Tuesday when a dump truck rammed into another vehicle, causing a 10-vehicle pileup near the intersection of Ky. 9 and U.S. 68.

The crash occurred at 12:13 p.m. when the dump truck, driven by Tommy Burns, 23, of Sunman, Ind., failed to stop for a traffic signal and struck a car driven by Crystal Muse of Maysville.

The impact caused a chain reaction involving two trucks and eight cars.

Police said 12 people were injured, but only Ms. Muse was admitted to a local hospital. She was in satisfactory condition Tuesday night at Mediview Regional Medical Center.

Normal traffic flow near the intersection was not restored until 3:45 p.m., police said.

Kentucky State Police said no charges were pending Tuesday night, although the accident remains under investigation.
