Colerain road will be wider
No opposition to Springdale project
BY DAN KLEPAL
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Hamilton County commissioners appear poised to move forward with the approval of a $1.5 million project to widen and repave part of Springdale Road, from Heritage Way to Colerain Avenue.
The project also includes modification of storm sewers and construction of a sidewalk along the north side of Springdale Road, near Northgate Mall.
Nearly 14,000 cars travel the thoroughfare every day, according to 1997 statistics.
A public hearing was held on the project Wednesday, with no one speaking against it. That means county commissioners will have a resolution drafted to take the next step acquiring property, moving utilities and accepting bids.
Construction won't begin until after the holiday shopping season.
The timetable is January through November, said David Foglesong, Colerain Township administrator. We can't resurface roads in the winter, but we can move utilities and those sorts of things. We try to avoid any construction during the peak shopping season.
The road improvements will be paid for by a tax-increment financing arrangement, established by the township based on the Northgate Mall expansion. About 38 homes in the area will be affected.
Hamilton County Administrator David Krings said it was unusual for no one to speak out against a project of this magnitude. Normally there's somebody that thinks they're being harmed in some way, he said.
