GET TO IT

A guide to help make your day

Going out
        • Rock 'n' roll: At Annie's in Columbia Tusculum tonight, get heavy metal and modern rock with Motorhead, Dropkick Murphys, Hatebreed and Skarhead. Doors open 7 p.m. $15. 321-0220.

        • Follow Alice: Walk among butterflies, stop and smell the flowers at Krohn Conservatory's Butterflies in Wonderland. Don't forget to check out paintings and pottery by local artists at the It's Tea Time! exhibit. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. $3-$5. 421-5707.

Staying in
        • Critic's picks: It's the last day of “Must See TV” for four — yes, four! — months, one-hour season finales with Friends in Las Vegas (8 p.m., Channels 5, 22), Frasier worried about his brother's affair with a waitress (9 p.m.) and ER's Dr. Benton (Eriq La Salle) worried his son may be moving to Germany (10 p.m.). And TV critic John Kiesewetter suggests taping Angela Lansbury as The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax, based on Dorothy Gilman's novels (9 p.m., Channels 12, 7).

        • Live on WNKU: Catch the music of Jim's Big Ego today before they play Top Cat's in Corryville. Interview and in-studio performance 11 a.m. on Northern Kentucky University's WNKU-FM (89.7).

What's in stores today
        • Burning brightly: Cincinnati-based Memorial Candles is finding it can help people through times of tragedy. Anderson Township resident Shirley Walsh Suter's business offers keepsake candles to honor the deceased or as gifts to survivors. Memorial Candles have been sent to Columbine High School in Littleton, Colo., in the wake of the April 20 shooting spree, and purchased by survivors of the April 9 Montgomery-Blue Ash tornado. (888) 544-4815.

        • On the block: Books, prints, scrapbooks, photographs, etchings and more. A diversified collection dating from the 1700s to the present will be auctioned 10 a.m. Tuesday at Main Auction Galleries, 137 W. Fourth St., downtown. Get an early look 9 a.m.-4 p.m. today, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Friday and 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday. No inspection day of sale. 621-1280.

Brand spanking new
        • For kids: E.A. Kids, a new kids' furniture collection from Ethan Allen, hits stores in June. Pint size focus groups told the company what kids want: bold colors and patterns, an extra bed for sleep-overs and cool storage options. What E.A. wants is a piece of the growing youth furniture market, a mere $4.4 billion in 1997.

Planning ahead
        • A day away: Artist Mark Fox and Saw Theater present contemporary performance puppetry 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Contemporary Arts Center's Absolut Contemporary Fri $3.50. 345-8400.

        • 48 hours out: Meet the manatees — Stoneman and Douglas — the newest inhabitants at the Cincinnati Zoo — when Manatee Springs opens Saturday. . Gates open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. $5-$10; $5 parking. 281-4700.

        • 72 hours 'til Sunday: Explore the historic homes and gardens of the Dayton Lane Historic Area in Hamilton during the May Promenade Tour, 1-5 p.m. $9-$10. 863-2000.
