Madeira Junior High School recently won a $375,000, 15-month, federal grant to expand classroom technology.
Madeira plans to update the school's computer lab, buy laptops, software and other equipment and train teachers in technological teaching.
The school also plans to expand the partnership between the school and the community through e-mail and Web pages. Citizens also will be able to use the junior high's computer lab for free in evenings.
The grant was part of Ohio's Raising the Bar in the Middle Grades program, which is funded through the federal Technology Literacy Challenge Fund.
Council wants report on Lunken's options
In an effort to upgrade Lunken Airport, Cincinnati City Councilman Todd Portune Wednesday introduced a series of motions, including one asking for a report of what it would take to add a business center with phones, fax machines and modem hookups.
The motions come as the city is studying whether it would be feasible to bring some commercial flights into the municipal airport east of downtown. A feasibility study found flights on 19- to 30-
seat turboprops to Cleveland, Detroit, Milwaukee and Chicago's Midway Airport could be successful.
Corporate and private planes use the airport now. Commercial turboprop flights would not mean an increase in noise, airport officials have said. Turboprops are similar in size to the ones flying in and out of Lunken now, and there would be a small number of flights.

County approves money to continue renovations
Hamilton County commissioners Wednesday approved a $5.2 million expenditure for the continued renovation of the county courthouse, and to begin work on the William Howard Taft Center, at 230 E. Ninth St.
The courthouse work is the third of a six-phase, $44 million project. Design of both projects should be complete early next month, with the bidding process being completed July 23.
The work at the courthouse includes an upgrade of two courtrooms, new jury deliberation rooms, judges' chambers and restrooms on the third floor. On the sixth floor of the courthouse, the north jail cells will be removed and new air-conditioning equipment and other mechanical systems will be installed.
At the Taft Center, the third floor will be renovated and furnished for the county's Public Defender.
The Taft Center work should be finished by Jan. 6, with Phase III of the courthouse renovation being completed by April 10, 2000.
