Internet investment club a fraud, suit says

Minnesotan Jeffrey G. Blesi is suing a Dayton resident, saying the Ohioan's Money Works Internet investment club was a fraud.
Mr. Blesi says he invested repeatedly after receiving the promised 25 per cent quarterly return on his initial $25,000.
Eventually, he says, promoter David W. Hartigan and his colleagues persuaded Mr. Blesi to send more than $75,000 before dropping out of sight with Mr. Blesi's money.
The suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Cincinnati by attorney Timothy S. Mangan, seeks triple damages under a federal anti-racketeering statute.
Mr. Blesi says Money Works promoted itself in 1996 as a way to trade commodities, invest in limousines at the Houston Airport Taxi Commission and supply goods to electrical contractors and Wal-Mart.
Mr. Blesi said the interest payments stopped, he tried to withdraw from Money Works in 1997 but Mr. Hartigan failed to fulfill his promise to return the investment with interest.
Mr. Hartigan has an unlisted telephone number at his Stonesboro Drive address in Dayton and he could not be reached for comment.
