Planes to soar, loop at air show

BY WALT SCHAEFER
The Cincinnati Enquirer

BLUE ASH — The sky above Blue Ash Airport will fill with biplanes and monoplanes at the annual Blue Ash Airport Days on June 12-13.

Proceeds will benefit “Catch A Cure” for childhood cancer at the Children's Hospital Medical Center.

Aerobatic stunt pilot Mark Pfeifler of Oklahoma City will again fly his Edge 540 monoplane.

“The Blue Ash show is a wonderful event. It's like a small-town air show atmosphere,” Mr. Pfeifler said. “In the smaller shows, you can get closer to the crowd, meet people. It's not at all like the shows where 200,000 people attend. The hospitality is great, the show is well run and, well, it's just fun to fly there.”

The show also will feature Billy Bruns, an Elder High School graduate and an air-traffic controller based in Wisconsin, who also flies monoplane aerobatics.

The biplane aerobatics team of Harold Johnson and Darrel Montgomery also will perform, as will the Paul McGowan Parachute Team, based at the Blue Ash Airport.

There are 15 hot-air balloons entered in the first local hot-air balloon race in eight years, at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

On Sunday, about 200 antique cars will fill the field for judging at the Blue Ash Antique and Classic Car Show. Also Sunday, there will be a concert with Hot Wax at 3 p.m.
