Summer series provides free music

        MASON — They've got music, they've got rhythm, they've got free concerts — who could ask for anything more?

        The Mason Parks and Recreation Department has lined up a variety of musicians for its seventh Sunshine Summer Concert series and the focus is on families and fun.

        The Johnny Mack Super Big Band will play music of the 1930s and '40s on Saturday.Some band members have performed with jazz greats such as Stan Kenton, Les Elgart, Glenn Miller and Doc Severinson.

        Future performers and concert dates are:

        • July 4: Robin Lacy and DeZydeco, a six-piece ensemble, performs Cajun fusion music with traditional Cajun instruments.

        • July 18: Mason Community Band presents a program of traditional band repertoire, including marches, show tunes and American classics.

        • Aug. 1: The Modulators offer a variety of popular dance music.

        • Aug. 15: Stagger Lee, a Cammy award-winning country band plays everything from the blues to boogies.

        Magicians, clowns and comedians will provide entertain ment during intermissions. All concerts in the free series begin at 7 p.m. in the natural amphitheater at Pine Hill Lakes Park, 211 Kings Mills Road in Mason.

        Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and picnics, but only non-alcoholic beverages.
