County saves with insurance switch
New health-care firm costs less

NEWPORT A recent health care evaluation has saved Campbell County $32,000 for the next fiscal year.
Begining July 1, the start of the new fiscal year, Campbell County employees will get a new health care provider.
The county, which previously insured its employees through United Health Care of Kentucky, opted not to renew its contract and instead switched to Humana.
We got coverage almost identical to what we had with United Health Care with a few extra benefits, Campbell County Personnel Director Naguanda Deaton. We did definitely save money.
Last year, Campbell County spent $751,488 to cover its 150 full-time employees. By switching to Humana, Camp bell County will spend $719, 698.
This represents a 4 percent reduction in cost for the same type of coverage we had, she said.
In order to switch health coverage carriers, the Personnel Department began researching rates three months ago. Then Mrs. Deaton made a recommendation to the Campbell County Fiscal Court, which approved the measure June 2.
To make the change easier, Personnel Department employees go to each department, handing out literature and insurance applications, so county employees don't have to take time off work to get their insurance in order.
