Cintas' Farmer on Forbes list
BY DANA DIFILIPPO
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Bill Gates, Ralph Lauren, Steven Spielberg and ... Richard Farmer?
As the Cincinnati area's richest resident, Mr. Farmer joins world rulers, fashion moguls, oil tycoons and other fabulously wealthy people by making it onto Forbes magazine's annual listing of billionaires around the globe.
Mr. Farmer, of Indian Hill, chairman of Mason-based uniform supplier Cintas, is worth $1.8 billion, ranking 271st, the magazine's July 5 issue says.
With $90 billion to his name, Microsoft Corp. co-founder and chairman Bill Gates tops the list of 465 billionaires in the magazine's 13th annual World's Billionaires list.
Leslie Herbert Wexner of Columbus, Ohio, founder of The Limited Inc., ranked 178th, with $2.8 billion, while Mr. Spielberg, who was born in Cincinnati and lived here until age 2, ranked 316th, with $1.6 billion.
Cincinnati financier Carl H. Lindner didn't make the list even though he rates as one of America's richest men, with a net worth last year of $830 million, according to Forbes.
Just as the Internet has sped up the pace of life, hastening everything from stock trading to travel planning, it also has accelerated the creation of more wealth particularly among the richest individuals.
Mr. Gates alone has as much money as the top nine on the list 10 years ago.
