Mason plans party for 4th
Fireworks will be spectacular
BY KEVIN ALDRIDGE
The Cincinnati Enquirer
MASON Cay Steinhauer remembers the 1960s when the whole town came together at Civitan Park (now Heritage Oak Park) to celebrate Independence Day.
Every Fourth of July it was the place to go, she said. We had music and dancing out in the grass. Different organizations had booths with food and games.
We would take blankets and lawn chairs and stay until the fireworks ended. It was a time that the community could all get together and have a good time.
Warren County's largest city is trying to recapture a bit of the past by putting together the first large-scale, public July 4 celebration in Mason in more than 30 years.
The Mason Parks and Recreation Department along with Senour Flaherty Insurance and Cinergy will sponsor the celebration in conjunction with the Sunshine Concert Series.
Music, food, entertainment and a spectacular display by Rozzi's Famous Fireworks will all be part of the festivities.
We really wanted to get the community together again on the Fourth of July like it used to be, said Paul Walsh, Mason's parks and recreation director.
The evening begins at the amphitheater of Pine Hill Lakes Park on Kings Mills Road with a live Y96 Van Run broadcast at 7 p.m. with the Cajun sounds of Robin Lacy and DeZydeco at 8 p.m. Cajun food will be available, and face painting for children.
Fireworks begin at 10 p.m.
Other places to watch the fireworks include Corwin Nixon Park, 6249 Mason-Montgomery Road; Mason High School, 770 S. Mason-Montgomery Road; and Heritage Oak Park, 5001 U.S. 42 North.
