GET TO IT

A guide to help make your day

Going out
        • German fun: Here's the deal: You do the vocals on “Anniversary Waltz,” and Mecklenburg Gardens will provide the accompaniment — 20 accordions. The restaurant (302 E. University Ave. Corryville) celebrates the third anniversary of its reopening. with Jack Frost and his 20-piece accordion band doing everything from Sound of Music to German drinking songs. It's in the grape arbor 7:30-10 p.m.-ish or whenever their arms tire out. Oh yeah: make a reservation; it can get beer-hall crowded on party nights. 221-5353.

        • County fair: Poultry and goats and cows, oh my. It's the Dearborn County 4-H and Community Fair, today through Saturday in Lawrenceburg. Complete with all the fair staples: livestock, rides, contests, wonderfully greasy fair food, crafts, tons of entertainment, including a demolition derby (7:30 p.m. today), motorcycle and quad runner drags (7:30 p.m. Thursday), motorcycle races (8 p.m. Friday) and auto races (7 p.m. Saturday). Free admission. Lawrenceburg Fairgrounds, U.S. 50, 25 minutes west of Cincinnati. (812) 537-3754, Ext. 202.

        • LaRosa's Party in the Park: Refreshments and music by Gunther and the Maladroids, 5:30-9 p.m. today, Yeatman's Cove. 579-3191.

Staying in
        • TV picks: Talk about a summer rerun: A time machine malfunction forces Parker (Jonathan LaPaglia) to repeat his time-traveling mission over and over on UPN's Seven Days (8 p.m., Channel 25). TV Critic John Kiesewetter also notes that Christine Lahti (Chicago Hope) stars in Judgment Day: The Ellie Nesler Story (9 p.m., USA), as the mother who killed the man who sexually abused her son.

What's in stores today
        • On disc: Marvin is 60 (Motown; $16.99 CD; $10.99) is a slightly tardy tribute to the late soul great Marvin Gaye in honor on what would have been his 60th birthday (April 2). Singers include Cleveland's own Gerald Levert, the duo of Erykah Badu and D'Angelo and Brian McKnight, El DeBarge and Jon B.

The Bluegrass Sessions (Tales from the Acoustic Planet Vol. 2) (Warner Bros.; $16.99 CD; $10.99 cassette), bring five-string banjo explorer Bela Fleck back to his roots in an all-star set that included former New Grass Revival band mate Sam Bush.

Ex-Akronite (Akronism?) Chrissie Hynde is back with her band the Pretenders for Viva El Amor! (Warner Bros.; $16.99 CD; $10.99 cassette), with guests Jeff Beck and Jules Shear.

And, says pop music writer Larry Nager, Yin Yang (Compass; $19.99 CDs) is the much anticipated double-CD set by Flecktones bass master Victor Wooten, with help from Mr. Fleck and Cincinnati's own king of funk, Bootsy Collins.

Planning ahead
        • 48 hours out: Folk singer-songwriter John McCutcheon comes to Raymond Walters College Friday for a concert to aid families and businesses in Blue Ash affected by the April 9 tornado. 8 p.m. $30-$50. 745-5705.

        • 72 hours 'til Saturday: As many as 85 percent of child safety seats are installed incorrectly. Is yours? Find out at the “Safe Seat, Safe Child” program, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at AAA Cincinnati, Florence. Appointments required for full inspections; five-minute checks available without appointments. 762-3298. • One week away: Pulitzer Prize winner Tony Horwitz will sign and discusses Confederates in the Attic, 7 p.m. next Wednesday, Joseph-Beth Booksellers, Rookwood Pavilion, Norwood. 396-8960.

        • One month away: Cinergy Field heats up with the Coors Light Festival, July 23-25. Artists will include R. Kelly, Faith Evans, Temptations, Chaka Khan and Grover Washington Jr. $25-$50. 562-4949, 761-4600.
