Roof fund may be used for fountain restoration

Cincinnati may move ahead quickly with restoration of the Tyler Davidson Fountain by using interim financing to get the project started.

On Tuesday, City Manager John Shirey said $1.5 million could be borrowed from the city hall roof replacement fund because that money will not be needed until early next year.

Funds for restoration of the fountain are being raised by a private group led by lawyer Charles Lindberg. Rather than wait for the donations, city council can vote today to use the $1.5 million to get started. The actual cost is expected to reach $2 million.

Mr. Lindberg said Tuesday fund-raising is going well. “We'll certainly have the pledges to support (the restoration) and then some.”
