Teen indicted in rape attempt, 50¢ robbery
The Associated Press
AKRON, Ohio A teen-ager was indicted Tuesday on two felony charges in the attempted rape of a 71-year-old woman praying in a church.
A Summit County grand jury charged Donte Wilson, 17, of Akron, with one count of attempted rape and one count of robbery in the March 23 attack inside St. Martha Roman Catholic Church.
Mr. Wilson pleaded innocent in Summit County Juvenile Court before Prosecutor Michael Callahan had the case moved to common pleas court, where Mr. Wilson will face trial as an adult. He could get 16 years in prison if convicted. He was still jailed Tuesday in lieu of $35,000 bond.
When the woman resisted repeated attempts to assault her, Mr. Wilson robbed her instead and made off with 50 cents, said police Lt. Ron Dispina.
Mr. Wilson fled when the attack was interrupted by a woman who had been attending an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in the church basement, police said.
