Hillsboro girl, 12, killed in crash; sister hurt

SALEM TOWNSHIP A 12-year-old Hillsboro girl was killed and her younger sister injured on an off-road minibike Thursday when they failed to heed a stop sign and were struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Harwood and Hughes roads, the Highland County Sheriff's Department said.
Randi Ream, who was operating the motorized bike, was pronounced dead at Highland District Hospital in Hillsboro, shortly after the 12:57 p.m. crash, the sheriff's department said. Her 10-year-old sister, Megan, was seriously injured and taken to Children's Hospital in Columbus, where her injuries were being evaluated late Thursday.
Both girls, who were not wearing helmets, were thrown from the minibike, the sheriff's department said.
The bike, which was northbound on Hughes Road, failed to stop at the stop sign at Harwood Road and pulled into the path of vehicle, the sheriff's department said.
The driver of the vehicle, Daniel Mays, 55, of Sardinia, was not injured.
