Ex-husband's bond $250,000 in strangling

BY JANE PRENDERGAST
The Cincinnati Enquirer

COVINGTON — A man accused of strangling his ex-wife and leaving her body in the trunk of her car remained jailed Tuesday in lieu of $250,000 cash bond.

Dannie Lee Heras, 27, is charged with the murder of Krista Cox Heras, 26, with whom they had a 7-year-old son. They were divorced for several years. Investigators said they did not know the motive for the killing.

Covington police released a statement that said investigators would not comment on reports of Ms. Heras' cause of death. But court records signed by one of their detectives say a witness told police Mr. Heras admitted he strangled her.

Police say the killing took place in Ms. Heras' apartment on Emery Drive either late Friday or early Saturday. He then allegedly put her body in the trunk of her white Dodge Dynasty, drove it to a lake near Claryville in Campbell County and pushed it into the water. A fisherman spotted it Sunday afternoon.

Mr. Heras is scheduled to return to court July 7.
