Man sues city, 2 officers in Feb. shooting
The Cincinnati Enquirer
A Winton Terrace man is suing the city of Cincinnati and two District 5 police officers, alleging police violated his civil rights by shooting at him and searching his van while he was inside sleeping.
Ciro Alfonzo filed the lawsuit Friday in U.S. District Court. He is seeking unspecified compensatory and punitive damages and a jury trial.
The suit says on Feb. 28, Mr. Alfonzo was sleeping in his van in the rear of a Mini-Mart on Kings Run Drive, where he worked. Officer Darian Bookman pulled open the side door of the van, the suit says. Specialist Cecilia Charron, who was standing 2 feet from the rear window, shot at Mr. Alfonzo but missed, according to the suit.
The suit says the only crime Mr. Alfonzo committed was sleeping while black.
Lt. Col. Richard Biehl declined to comment, saying he hadn't seen the lawsuit.
