Man charged in child porn case

Independence probe crosses the river

The Cincinnati Enquirer

INDEPENDENCE — Police charged Walter David Bertsche, 29, of Walnut Hills on Friday with use of a minor in a sexual performance.

Police said the arrest was the product of a continuing investigation into child pornography by the Independence Police Department and the Commonwealth Attorney's Office in Kenton County.

The investigation began March 29 when Independence police arrested Thomas Meyer of Independence after a 14-year-old boy in Mr. Meyer's care told police that the man and his friends had been taking pictures of him and other boys in diapers and in the nude.

Cincinnati vice squad officers arrested Mr. Bertsche early Saturday at his apartment. Police say they confiscated three computers, which will be sent to the Regional Electronic Computer Intelligence Task Force at the Hamilton County Sheriff's office to be searched for additional evidence.

Use of a minor in a sexual performance is punishable by 10 to 20 years in prison.

Mr. Bertsche is expected to appear in court in Hamilton County on Tuesday to face extradition to Kentucky.

Independence police say they have also discovered the identity of a second boy used by the men.
