Pleasant Ridge's day makes return
Neighborhood throws festival
BY CHRISTINE WOLFF
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Much of the time, the world zips past Pleasant Ridge, the city neighborhood tucked off Interstate 71 and cut into quarters by busy Montgomery and Ridge roads.
Saturday, the community wants passersby to stop and get to know the place old-
timers call The Ridge.
The reason: The return of Ridge Day.
The daylong festival, which began in the early '70s and appeared sporadically through the '80s and '90s, returns after a three-year hiatus.
It offers a variety of reasons to park and stay, including food from Pleasant Ridge restaurants; games; a parade; two 1.5-mile runs; music; and a vintage car show.
The goal is to have some fun in the sun, to bring the neighborhood together and, as a side benefit, to show off Pleasant Ridge, said Tom Hagerty, president of the Pleasant Ridge Community Council.
Pleasant Ridge a well-kept secret, Mr. Hagerty says includes about 4,500 households and 100 businesses bordered by Norwood, Kennedy Heights, Amberley Village and Columbia Township.
Several new businesses have opened recently such as The Dubliner and Manhattan West restaurants and the integrated neighborhood is thriving, festival organizers say.
It's a great place for a family, said Doug Newberry, the festival's chairman. It's a very close-knit and caring community.
Ridge Day will be family-oriented, with no gambling booths or beer sales, Mr. Hagerty said.
Booths will offer information on businesses, educational and youth organizations, and interactive games.
