Ex-official seeks Edgewood job

BY CINDY SCHROEDER
The Cincinnati Enquirer

EDGEWOOD — Roger Rolfes, the former Florence city coordinator, is among the candidates to replace Edgewood Administrator Lou Noll when he retires.

Mr. Noll, 63, said this week he plans to retire by the end of the year.

“I'm having some health problems, but I told the mayor I didn't want to leave (city officials) in the lurch with the new administrator coming on,” Mr. Noll said. “I want to give them about three months of time where we would be working together.”

Mr. Noll has been Edge wood's administrator since June 1990, and he was mayor for 16 years before that.

Mr. Rolfes, 53, resigned as Florence city coordinator, effective July 1.

“It's more of an issue of mutual fit rather than performance,” Florence Mayor Diane

Whalen said, when the two reached agreement on the resignation a month ago.

Mr. Rolfes was the Florence city coordinator for eight years, served as mayor for 91/2 years, and he was on city council for six years.

While he confirmed that he has applied for the job of Edgewood administrator, Mr. Rolfes was reluctant to say much more.

“I applied for the job, and I hope I do well, but that remains to be seen,” he said. “That's a nice position there, and I don't want to do anything to reduce my chances.”

Mr. Rolfes said that he “has a number of resumes out.”

Mr. Noll declined to identify the other nine applicants, but he said all are from the Tristate and include candidates with government experience, as well as those who have a degree in public administration but have never been involved in government.

The deadline for applications for Edgewood administrator is July 30, and the advertised salary range is $45,000 to $65,000.

Mr. Noll said he expects city officials will narrow the field to four or five candidates, before calling them in for interviews.
