Century-old bridge will be replaced
Detours marked for Lockland, Reading drivers

READING Access to this Millcreek Valley community from the northbound Interstate 75 exit at Davis Street will be affected for the next several months as a century-old bridge is being replaced.
Bill McCormick of JMA Consultants, an engineering and design firm in Mount Auburn, said work began on the project Monday and will continue into late September or early October.
The span over the Mill Creek is just east of the exit ramp.
The old bridge had deteriorated to the point they had to put a 3-ton load limit on it, Mr. McCormick said. The old steel span will be replaced with a concrete bridge.
Reading Public Works Director Jerry Glaser said the project has been planned for two years and a joint application for $270,000 in state funding by this city and the village of Lockland was not approved until this year.
The bridge connects the two communities from Davis Street in Lockland to Koehler Avenue in Reading.
Interstate 75 traffic heading to Reading and exiting at the northbound Davis Street Exit 12, will be detoured into Lockland west on Davis Street to north on Central Avenue, to east on Wyoming Avenue, which becomes Benson Street in Reading. There is no southbound entrance ramp from Davis Street.
Mr. Glaser said about 800 vehicles use the bridge daily all two-axle vehicles in compliance with the weight restriction. That limit will be lifted when the new bridge is finished, he said.
Reading and Lockland contributed $27,000 to the project and $14,000 in engineering costs, Mr. Glaser said.
Trend Construction of Sharonville has been retained to build the new bridge.
