Former jail officer's trial on sex charges postponed

HAMILTON The trial for a former Butler County Jail corrections officer who is accused of having sex with a female inmate has been rescheduled for Aug. 2.
The trial was to begin today before Common Pleas Judge Michael Sage. It wase rescheduled at the request of the prosecutor's office.
Steven Cox, 50, of Hamilton, is charged with four counts of sexual battery. Each count car ries a prison sentence of one to five years and a maximum fine of $10,000. He has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity and is free on $10,000 bond.
Mr. Cox resigned Oct. 14 three months after being hired when his supervisors confronted him with the sexual battery allegations.
The female was in jail for writing bad checks. The Cincinnati Enquirer does not name complainants in sexual cases.
