LAKESIDE PARK The chief of police for Lakeside Park and Crestview Hills is off the job after asking for a leave of absence.
Col. Fred Anderson, chief of the Lakeside Park/Crestview Hills Police Authority, was given the leave Monday night, Crestview Hills Mayor Paul Meier said.
He said he could not disclose more about the proceedings because of a Kentucky law designed to protect police officers' rights. He said he could not say why the chief wanted to be off duty and did not know how long the leave would be in effect.
The meeting was a closed-door session of the authority's board.
I was told a short leave was the request, Mr. Meier said.
He and Lakeside Park Mayor Frank Smith immediately signed a joint executive order appointing Sgt. Paul Herbst as acting chief.
Mr. Smith also asked how long Chief Anderson wanted to be off, but he said the authority board members didn't seem to be sure. Jeffrey Mando, attorney for the police authority board, could not be reached for comment Tuesday night.
