Florence names fire chief, public services director

FLORENCE — City officials stayed at home to select a new fire chief and public services director, on Wednesday naming Assistant Chief Tom Ollier to head the fire division and supervisor Robert Townsend to take over as public service boss.
Chief Ollier, 49, joined the Florence Fire Department as a volunteer in 1971 and was promoted to engineer in 1972. He was hired as a full-time paid firefighter in 1976, was promoted to lieutenant in 1978, captain in 1991 and assistant chief in 1992. He was named deputy chief in January.
Mr. Townsend, a graduate of Dixie Heights High School and Northern Kentucky University, started in the public service department as a co-op in 1993 and was hired full time the same year. He was promoted to public service supervisor in 1998.
Chief Ollier replaces Rick Albers, the fire chief for nine years, who recently retired. Mr. Townsend replaces Jeff Koenig, who was recently appointed city coordinator.
