Gymnastics competition starts today

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Coach Mary Lee Tracy and three Cincinnati-area gymnasts begin competition today in the Pan American Games.

Half the six-member U.S. team trains at the Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy with Tracy.

The three local gymnasts are Alyssa Beckerman, 18, Jennie Thompson, 17, and Morgan White, 16.

Tracy won a gold medal as an assistant coach on the U.S. Olympic team in Atlanta in 1996. Tracy trained Amanda Borden and Jaycie Phelps, two members of that winning Olympic team.

The Pan Am Games are considered one of the preliminary competitions for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.
