Jail deputy charged with selling drugs
Guard due in court today

COVINGTON A Kenton County Jail deputy was arrested Thursday for allegedly selling pot and nerve pills to inmates.
Janet Wilkins, a deputy for a year, was immediately suspended. Her supervisors had been watching her for more than a month after they got a tip that she was trafficking within the facility, Jailer Terry Carl said.
Ms. Wilkins was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and promoting contraband. She will stay off duty without pay until the her case is concluded, Mr. Carl said.
Jail officials were in the process of transferring her to the Boone County Jail so she wouldn't be in the same facility where she worked, but she posted bond and was released.
I have a zero-tolerance policy for this type of activity and regardless of whether the alleged violator is an inmate or employee, they will face the same criminal charges, Mr. Carl said.
He said he is confident Ms. Wilkins was the only employee involved. Detective Wayne Wallace of the Kenton County Police Department said Ms. Wilkins allegedly offered marijuana and the prescription anti-anxiety drug Xanax to inmates.
No one housed at the jail had been charged as of Thursday afternoon. Detective Wallace said the investigation continues.
Ms. Wilkins was scheduled to appear in court this morning.
