Six candidates seeking 3 Oxford council seats

BY SUE KIESEWETTER
The Cincinnati Enquirer

OXFORD — Former Mayor Elizabeth “Betty” Quantz is one of six candidates vying for three open seats on Oxford City Council.

She will face Bob Blackburnof Kehr Road; Vice Mayor Kenneth Bogard of Melinda Drive; Ennis B. Miller of Marcia Drive; Dave Prows of Kehr Road; and Jerome Conley of College Corner Road.

Council members Vanessa Cummings and George Goodell decided not to seek re-election to the four-year seats. G. Alan Kyger is running unopposed to fill an unexpired term he was appointed to after the death of former Councilman Chuck Warren.

Mr. Prows, a 32-year-Oxford resident, said he is run ning to “bring a common-sense approach” to issues council will be facing including the streetscape project, park improvement and the extension of Locust Street.

“It's my turn to step up to the plate,” Mr. Prows said.

Mr. Ennis said that if he is elected to council, he will give up his position on the city's Civil Service Commission. He is also involved in Campus Ministries, Habitat for Humanity and the Oxford Welfare Advisory.

“The community would like to get more input into council and have more of a voice,” Mr. Ennis said. “(The present) council wants to make decisions that many people don't want. I'm running to enhance the community.”
