GET TO IT

A guide to help make your day

Calling Parrotheads
        • Yo, parrotheads: Come up and see us sometime. Really. The Enquirer hereby issues an invitation to parrotheads: Drop by our 19th-floor photo studio between 5 and 7 p.m. today, and we'll take your picture for a photo spread running later in the week. Come in work clothes — suits, uniforms, jeans, whatever — and then change into parrothead gear so we can document your transformation from mild-mannered day worker to party-hearty parrothead. The Enquirer is at 312 Elm St., downtown; take an elevator to 19, and follow the signs to the photo studio.

GOING OUT
        • Heavy metal: Eighties superstars Black Sabbath play Riverbend at 7:30 p.m. today with special guests Godsmack and Drain. $25-$55. 562-4949.

        • Child success: Drs. Sharon and Craig Ramey, experts in the field of child learning, present and sign their new book Going to School: How to Help Your Child Succeed, A Handbook for Parents of Children Ages 3-8 at 7 p.m. today, Joseph-Beth Booksellers, Rookwood Pavilion, Norwood. 396-8965.

        • Reds baseball: Four-game series against Pittsburgh starts at 7:05 p.m. today at Cinergy Field. Tickets: 421-7337.

        • Audobon program: Bird lovers meet at 7:30 p.m. today at Winton Woods' Winton Centre for a presentation on Audobon Field Camp, Springfield Township. Free. 741-7926.

        • Bengals camp: Today's schedule: skills, 11 a.m.-noon and practice, 3-5 p.m. Georgetown College, Georgetown, Ky. $5 to park, $25 buses.

        • Gardening series: Experts from White Oak Garden Center will discuss lawn care at 7 p.m. today at West Fork Branch Library, 3825 West Fork Road, Monfort Heights. Free. 369-4472.

STAYING IN
        • TV picks: Shake your groove thing as The Drew Carey Show repeats a compilation of “Time Warp,” “Five O'clock World,” “Cleveland Rocks” and other dance numbers from previous shows (8 p.m., Channels 9, 2).

        • TV Critic John Kiesewetter also notes that the History Channel explains The History of Sex, from Queen Victoria to Viagra, in a five-part series this week (10 p.m. today-Friday).

        • Web site of the day: Click on the “Conference Room” of www.home-help.com. Jon Rawlins, president of a Bakersfield, Calif., construction company, operates this Web site and answers home-repair questions. It looks like he logs in each morning to tell folks how to fix banging pipes, tear off a roof, or install wainscoting.

THE GOODS
(What's in stores today)

        • Clean fun: Cardinal Laboratories of Azusa, Calif., is tempting toddlers to come clean by embedding rubber toys in bars of clear glycerin CraZy Soap.

Kids will wash up more often, the company says, so they can use up the soap so they can get to the dinosaurs, space aliens, sharks and dogs and cats inside. Bars are scented like pina coladas and baby powder. $2.25. (800) 433-7387; www.crazypet.com.

PLANNING AHEAD
        • A Day Away: Jam-rockers Vertical Horizon appear Tuesday at Bogarts in Corryville. $6-$8. 562-4949.

        • 48 Hours Out: Larosa's Party in the Park, 5:30-9 p.m. Wednesday at Yeatman's Cove. Music by Ray's Music Exchange. Free. 579-3191.

        • 72 Hours 'Til Thursday: New T.J. Maxx store opens on Fourth Street, downtown with special hours — 8 a.m.-10 p.m.

Get To It appears daily. Send items to Get To It, Tempo, Cincinnati Enquirer, 312 Elm St., Cincinnati 45202; fax: 768-8330.
