School jobs assigned in Fairfield

New principals ready for fall

FAIRFIELD — As a teacher, Susan Lindberg loved being with the youngest children.

That's one reason why the California native jumped at the opportunity to become principal at the Fairfield Kindergarten Center after Arlene Swihart retired.

After just a few weeks on the job, Mrs. Lindberg said she made the right decision.

“I really love early childhood,” said Mrs. Lindberg, who has spent the last four years as principal at Mark Twain Elementary School in Miamisburg. “Those ages were my favorite to teach.” '

Mrs. Lindberg plans to develop a team among parents and educators.

An educator since 1976, Mrs. Lindberg has a bachelor's degree from California Polytechnic University, a master's in special education from California State-Los Angeles and a master's in administration from California State Fullerton. She taught kindergarten through grade 8 in California and was an assistant principal there before becoming principal in Miamisburg. Mrs. Lindberg, a Liberty Township resident, is married and has two children.

        Other administrative changes:

        • Leslie Laney, an assistant principal at North and East elementary schools, was named principal at South Elementary. She replaces Diane Thornton, who retired.

        • Preston Johnson was named assistant principal at South. He has been with the district since 1984.

        • Wayne Sawyers will become an assistant principal at Fairfield Senior High School. He had been assistant at Central Elementary and was principal for the high school summer program. He replaces David Spears, who retired.

        • Paige Novak was named assistant principal at Central, replacing Mr. Sawyers. A teacher since 1972, Ms. Novak has also worked as an administrative assistant.

        • Paul Otten is the new assistant principal for North and East elementary schools, replacing Ms. Laney. He was an intermediate school teacher the past two years.
