Woodlawn expands its Family Day Festival

BY MARIE McCAIN
The Cincinnati Enquirer

WOODLAWN — Instead of one day of fun, festivities and family, residents will now have two.

Village officials have expanded the annual Family Day Festival to two days, thanks to sponsorships and contributions from area businesses and others.

In its seventh year, the event is scheduled for Aug. 28-29. It will take place at the Woodlawn Ball Fields, along Woodlawn Boulevard between Riddle and Grove roads. Admission is free.

Village officials said they decided to expand the festival after more than 6,500 people attended last year's one-day event.

“That was the biggest at tendance we've had,” said Marjie Dogan, Woodlawn's director of Community Services/Parks and Recreation.

This year, though, the village is anticipating 10,000 people.

“We're so fortunate this year to have ... national headliners. ... We anticipate the biggest and best event ever,” Mayor Susan Upton Farley added.

Other aspects have also grown. “We used to have 50 booths, but now we'll have 120 and more carnival rides and more vendors,” Ms. Dogan said.

Entertainers will include Club Nouveau and Reggie Calloway. Also performing will be the Lincoln Heights Missionary Baptist Church Choir, the New Friendship Baptist Church Choir and other gospel groups.
