Rudolph indicted in slayings

Man also faces Butler robbery, weapon charges

BY STEVE KEMME
The Cincinnati Enquirer

HAMILTON — A man accused of killing and robbing a Union Township couple was indicted Monday by a Butler County grand jury.

Anthony Larry Rudolph, 42, of Cincinnati was indicted on two counts of aggravated murder, two counts of aggravated robbery and one count of having a weapon contrary to a court's order.

Mr. Rudolph was scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Monday afternoon, but the prosecutors took the case directly to the grand jury without the hearing.

The prosecution decided to skip a preliminary hearing to avoid unnecessary delays, said John M. Holcomb, an assistant county prosecutor.

Mr. Rudolph is accused of killing Jimalee Minix, 52, and her longtime companion, Abram W. Smith III, 55. Their bodies were found Aug. 5 inside their home in Butler County's Union Township.

Mr. Rudolph, who is being held at the Butler County Jail in lieu of $1 million bond, surrendered to authorities in Licking County near Columbus, several hours after the bodies were discovered.

A year ago, he was released from state prison on parole after serving six years of a nine- to 15-year sentence for a Hamilton County robbery conviction.
