New roof shields fairgoers

ALEXANDRIA Visitors to this year's Alexandria Fair and Horse Show the Campbell County Fair won't have to worry about hot sun or soaking rain when they sit in the grandstand.
A brand new roof will shield them.
The grandstand roof has been at the top of the fair board's list of things to do for some time, but this finally was the year for the roof and other fairground improvements.
143rd annual fair
Fair board President Jim Davis and a group of fair workers have been laboring during the summer to give fairgoers a more pleasant atmosphere and some additional amenities for the 143rd annual fair.
The top attraction of the fair, the horse show, will fill the ring in front of the newly-roofed grandstand with events on the evenings of Sept. 3 and 4.
Twice-daily horse shows, morning and evening, will be held Sept. 5 and Labor Day, Sept. 6. A total of 129 classes will be contested.
New lunch stand
The fair, which runs Sept. 2-6, also will show off a new lunch stand, an annex for the agriculture building, a new 20-stall barn and other improvements.
Mr. Davis and his crew handled much of the work, including wiring and carpentry.
As in the past, the fair will be preceded by a parade on Wednesday, Sept. 1, beginning at McCormick Vocational School and concluding at the fairgrounds on Ky. 10.
Admission to the Alexandria Fair and Horse Show is $6. It covers all the horse show, other grandstand events and rides.
