Filmmakers need extras for Madison, Ind., shots

BY MARGARET A. McGURK
The Cincinnati Enquirer

The public is invited to participate as unpaid extras when production begins in Madison, Ind., over Labor Day weekend on an independent film about Ohio River hydroplane racing.

Madison Miracle Productions is billing the three-day event as a 1970s fest to encourage visitors to wear '70s style clothing and hairdos appropriate for the film.

The movie, directed by Bill Bindley, who co-wrote the script with his brother Scott, is based on the true story of the Miss Madison team that won the 1971 Gold Cup hydroplane regatta. The cast includes Jake Lloyd (Star Wars) and Jim Caviezel (The Thin Red Line).

The company will re-create the race on Saturday, Sunday and Monday; filming will be 8 a.m. to dusk each day.

The weekend will include music from bands and DJs, contests for '70s outfits, face paintings, clowns, jugglers, and food for sale at '70s prices.

Musical lineup includes Don Youngblood and the Hoosier Beats, Soul Shaker, Sonic Voodoo, Dharmachine, Flaw, The Sock Monkey, Feather Creek and Rusty Bladen.

Drawings will be held for cash and prizes, including a trip to Los Angeles and passes to watch the filming up close. To encourage extras to show up before filming starts, more raffle tickets will be given to the earliest arrivals.

Madison is located on the Ohio River between Cincinnati and Louisville. Information: (812) 273-0607.
