Post Office gets new name, more space

CHEVIOT — Just about everything but the going rate for stamps is changing at the postal branch at 3336 Harrison Ave.
It is undergoing a $2.2 million renovation and expansion and has been renamed, from the Westwood Branch to the Cheviot Westwood Branch.
The reason, said Bonni G. Manies, spokeswoman for the Cincinnati Post Office, is to better reflect the neighborhoods that the branch serves. Although it has been called the Westwood Branch since it opened in 1951, the building is inside Cheviot city limits.
It serves more than 1,100 businesses and almost 27,000 residential customers with the ZIP codes 45211 and 45248. The expansion is needed to accommodate the increased population in those areas.
The name change was made official last week by Cincinnati Postmaster Bill Miner.
The construction project will double the branch's size to 25,000 square feet. Added amenities will include a new side entrance, a separate retail store and more than 1,000 post office boxes, up from 630.
