Police looking for witnesses to fatal crash

BY JANICE MORSE
The Cincinnati Enquirer

MIDDLETOWN — Investigators Wednesday were seeking witnesses who might help police determine who was at fault in a crash that killed a 40-year-old woman Tuesday evening.

Barbara Sellars of Middletown was pronounced dead at South Breiel Boulevard and Batsy Drive, where a pickup truck struck the driv er's side of her maroon 1989 Honda Accord.

Butler County Coroner Dr. Richard P. Burkhardt ruled that Ms. Sellars died as a result of injuries she suffered in the crash. Tests showed no alcohol in her blood.

The truck, a blue 1999 Chevrolet Silverado, was driven by Alex Magill, 17, of Middletown.

Neither he nor his passen ger, 17-year-old Richard Cook III, required medical treatment.

Police think Mr. Magill was northbound on Breiel and Ms. Sellars was westbound on Batsey and she was trying to turn south onto Breiel when the crash occurred, said Middletown Police Maj. Mike Bruck.

It was raining at the time, around 6:20 p.m., and the weather probably was a fac tor in the crash, Maj. Bruck said.

“We're trying to determine who was at fault, which (traffic) light was red,” he said Wednesday.

Several witnesses had come forward as of Wednesday morning, but Maj. Bruck asked anyone else who saw the crash to call him at 425-7747 or Detective S. Getter at 425-7724.
