Fairfield 10, Anderson 7

Haynes rushes for 206 yards

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Earl Haynes rushed for 206 yards on 35 carries to help Fairfield beat Anderson 10-7 in the finale of the Skyline Crosstown Showdown on Saturday night.

Fairfield was ranked No.7 in the Enquirer's Division I coaches poll; Anderson was ranked No.6.

Fairfield's Chris Caravajal recoverd a botched Anderson handoff at the six minutes into the game, and Haynes gave the Indians a lead with a 2-yard touchdown run nine plays later.

David Josefovsky's 1-yard touchdown run tied the score on Anderson's next possession.

Anderson senior running back John Martin left the game with about six minutes left to play in the first half. The Anderson medical staff said Martin probably suffered a broken collarbone. He was taken to the hospital after the game for X-rays.

“That was a great loss,” said Anderson coach Vince Suriano. “We lost a lot of foot quickness in the backfield.”

Haynes had a touchdown run in the third quarter called back because of a clipping penalty, so Fairfield settled for a 35-yard field goal that ended up being the margin of victory.

        Fairfield ....... 7 0 3 0—10

        Anderson ....... 7 0 0  0— 7

        F-Haynes 2 run (Brown kick) A-Josefovsky 1 run (Regan kick) F-Brown 35 field goal
