Golf tourney will aid organ-donation efforts

A golf tournament to support efforts to educate people about organ donations will be 1 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Blue Ash Golf Course.
LifeCenter, the Tristate's nonprofit organ-recovery agency, is sponsoring the second annual “Champions for Life” scramble tournament.
Co-chairmen of the event are Christine and Mike Frank, the Clermont County parents who donated organs from their teen-age sons, James and Christopher, who died in a traffic accident last in December. Both boys had told family they wanted to be organ donors.
Telling family is essential because they must give permission for organs to be donated when death is imminent, said Mark Sommerville, LifeCenter's assistant director.
Thirty foursomes and up to 120 golfers can participate in the tournament. Cost: $175 per person ($700 per foursome). Corporate and hole sponsorships are available.
