Programs include sailing, spelunking

OXFORD — Six excursions offered by the Outdoor Pursuit Center at Miami University beckon the adventurous to scenic spots beyond Ohio's borders.

The first trip, scheduled for Saturday, will offer the opportunity to sail at Brookville Lake in southeastern Indiana. Next Sunday, experienced and aspiring spelunkers can join a group going caving in Rockcastle County, Ky.

Other outings planned for September and October include climbing in Kentucky's Red River Gorge, rafting the New River in West Virginia, backpacking in Kentucky's Daniel Boone National Forest and boating on the Cumberland River in Tennessee.

Outdoor Pursuit Center programs are open to anyone over 16. Youths under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Trip prices vary, and discounts are given for those who are members of Miami's Recreational Sports Center (RSC). The one-day sailing trip is $29 for RSC members and $39 for nonmembers. The caving expedition is $42 for RSC members and $50 for nonmembers. All costs include transportation, equipment, camping fees and permits, and most food.

Call the Outdoor Pursuit Center between noon and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday at 529-1991.
