Three Republican members of Congress will open a national tour Tuesday at Clifton School to tout GOP education proposals.
Reps. Steve Chabot of Cincinnati, Anne Northup of Louisville and J.C. Watts Jr. of Oklahoma will lead the Education Express bus tour. Mr. Watts heads the House Republican Conference.
Lawmakers will meet with parents, students, teachers, principals and Cincinnati Public Schools Superintendent Steven Adamowski.
Clifton Principal Jeannie Schoonover will lead a school tour.
The Clifton school long had been one of the city's best but was identified last year as one of the worst among the district's 79 schools.
Just 2 percent of Clifton's fourth-graders and 6 percent of sixth-graders passed all five sections of state proficiency tests last year.
The school was overhauled this year with new teachers, principal and assistants and academic program.
Mr. Adamowski will discuss the School Accountability Plan that also prompted the district to redesign Parham Elementary in Evanston.
Invoking the redesign plan, administrators last month recommended that three other elementaries Bond Hill, Burton and Windsor be overhauled next year.
Mr. Adamowski also will also talk about how state and federal lawmakers can support Cincinnati.
The visit is the first stop on a seven-city, five-state tour.
