OHIO HIGH SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS

Bethel-Tate boys blank Deer Park in soccer

The Cincinnati Enquirer

The Bethel-Tate boys soccer team has never been known as a power, but the Tigers are beginning to look like a Division I contender.

Two goals each by Clint Miller and Andy Stamper propelled the Tigers to a fifth consecutive victory, a 4-0 triumph over Deer Park Wednesday at Bethel-Tate.

“Clint led the city in scoring last year with 28 goals, and Andy had about 20 assists,” third-year coach Dave Elam said. “We went 13-2-1 and only lost three seniors. We expected to have a good season.”

Elam also credited sophomore goalie Mike Donaworth and senior sweeper Matt Cunningham for much of the success.

BOYS GOLF: After starting the season with losses to Mason and Anderson, Turpin has been outstanding.

The Spartans (157) defeated St.Xavier (162) and Sycamore (167) Wednesday at Ivy Hills Country Club, led by Jon Pape (37) and Andy Presing (38).

“The kids' confidence was shaken by the slow start,” Turpin coach Bill Hanneken said. “But we won the Hamilton Big Blue Invitational on Saturday, which may have turned it around.”

GIRLS SOCCER: A goal by Crystal Test five minutes into the second half off a pass from Nicole Giesting powered undefeated McAuley to a 2-1 victory over Mercy in the Girls Greater Cincinnati League opener for both schools.

Also in the GGCL, Badin and Ursuline tied 1-1 with Badin's Julie Rais scoring midway through the second half, erasing the Lions' 1-0 lead.

FOOTBALL CHANGE: Due to the Jewish holiday Rosh Hashanah, the football game between undefeated Wyoming and undefeated Finneytown will be played at 7:30 tonight at Finneytown.

Also, the football game between Madeira and Indian Hill will be played Saturday at Indian Hill.
