GET TO IT

A guide to help make your day

Going out
        • Reporter for a day: Visit Newseum's NewsCapade with Al Neuharth, founder of USA Today. It's an interactive museum of news set up during Oktoberfest-Zinzinnati at Fifth and Broadway, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. today, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday. (The festival is downtown Saturday-Sunday only).

        • CSO tonight: The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra performs at Music Hall, 8 p.m. today (and Saturday). With Jesus Lopez-Cobos, conductor, and Hilary Hahn, violinist. $12-$46. 381-3300.

        • 1999 Parade of Homes: Open 5-9 p.m. today at Steeplechase in Richwood. Presented by Home Builders Association of Northern Kentucky. Weekends, through Sept. 26. $6, free children under 12. 331-9500.

        • Country rock: Brothers First plays Lucky Jack's in Loveland, 9:30 p.m.-1:30 a.m. today. 583-5600.

Staying in
        • TV picks: With the major networks ignoring minority stars this fall, Black Entertainment Television changes the TV picture with Incognito (10 p.m., BET), the first of 10 original romance or action films produced by the network and Roy Campanella II. Incognito stars Ron Glass, Richard T. Jones, Allison Dean, Phil Morris and Vanessa Williams.

        • TV Critic John Kiesewetter also says farewell to Home Improvement — and the rerun season — when ABC repeats Tim Allen's sitcom finale today (8 p.m., Channels 9, 2), signaling the start of the new TV season Monday.

What's in stores today
        • Out today: The Naked Man, the directing debut of Dayton's own J. Todd Anderson, hits video shelves today. (You didn't miss it at the theater; it was never released in this country.) Shot by Milford-based cinematographer Jeff Barklage and co-written by Ethan Coen (Mr. Anderson is the longtime storyboard artist for the Coen brothers), the movie stars Michael Rapaport as a chiropractor/wrestler who goes on a rampage after the bad guys kill his family. Rachael Leigh Cook (She's All That) co-stars.

Harried with children
        • Brain Quest Challenge: Kids in grades 2-7 are invited to play the live interactive version of Brain Quest, America's best-selling educational game. The “It's Okay To Be Smart Tour” event will begin 11 a.m. Saturday at Joseph-Beth Booksellers, Rookwood Pavilion, Madison and Edwards roads, Norwood. Win T-shirts, stickers and other prizes. 396-8970.

Planning ahead
        • A day away: Tickets for Ricky Martin's Dec. 5 concert at Firstar Center go on sale 10 a.m. Saturday. $37.50-$87.50. 562-4949.

        • 48 hours out: Sunday, Ginny Frazier and Circles and Arrows perform a benefit concert, 6 p.m. at Off the Avenue Studios, 1546 Knowlton St., Northside. $7-$10. 221-2822.

        • One week away: Next Friday, Dance Hall Crashers come to Bogart's in Corryville. Guests are No Use for a Name and Limp. Show starts and 8:30 p.m. $10. 562-4949.
