Teen-ager faces murder charge in failed holdup
Friend died in shooting at store

Three teen-agers accused of taking part in a botched holdup at an Avondale carryout got more bad news Thursday.
Prosecutors are pursuing murder charges against them because one of their friends was killed in an armed encounter last week with the owner of the store.
One of the accused robbers, 18-year-old Anthony Mitchell, was indicted Thursday on one count of murder. He is accused of driving the getaway car.
Prosecutor Mike Allen said he is considering murder charges against the other two, both juveniles.
The suspects were the only ones shot during the Sept. 8 robbery at Clifford's Carry Out.
Anthony Santino Harris, 18, of Avondale, died from a gunshot wound to the neck. The two juveniles also were shot and remain in the hospital.
Under Ohio law, suspects can be charged with murder if they commit a felony that results in the death of another person, even if that person was not their intended target.
If your actions are responsible for a death, you can be charged with murder, Mr. Allen said. That's what happened here.
Prosecutors say the teens entered the store, drew guns and demanded money. They say the gunmen wrestled two customers to the floor and put a gun to the head of the wife of the store owner, Eugene Clifford.
When Mr. Clifford, 60, emerged from a back room, prosecutors say, he fired a warning shot into the ceiling. He then fired once at the three teens, striking each one.
Mr. Mitchell, allegedly parked in the alley outside, sped away and was caught later, police said.
A Pleasant Ridge resident, Mr. Mitchell faces a possible sentence of 15 years to life if he is convicted of murder. He also is charged with aggravated robbery and robbery.
