An Autumn Celebration, the fall version of the Cincinnati Flower Show, runs 10 a.m.-6 p.m. next Saturday and Sept. 26 at Coney Island.
The event, in its second year, focuses on fresh produce, fall gardening, herbs, harvest recipes and healthy living, says Mary Margaret Rochford, president and shows director at the Cincinnati Horticultural Society, which produces the celebration, along with April's annual Flower Show in Ault Park.
Show highlights:
Jason Borger, fly-fishing expert and double for actor Robert Redford in A River Runs Through It, will demonstrate casting and boating techniques 11 a.m., 1 and 3 p.m. both days.
June McCarthy, executive chef for Ohio Gov. Bob Taft, will speak 3:30 p.m. next Saturday.
Ethan Becker, editor of The Joy of Cooking, talks about summer soups 1 p.m. Sept. 26.
Ireland's Darina Allen, author, cook, healthy-living expert and owner of Ballymaloe Cookery School, will demonstrate and share cooking tips 11:30 a.m. next Saturday. ($30. Reservations required: 872-5194.)
Floral exhibits, including giant cornucopia, corn husk horses and giant scarecrows, are being presented by the Ohio Valley Dahlia Association, Greater Cincinnati Orchid Society, Cincinnati African Violet Society and Bonsai Society of Greater Cincinnati.
Competition categories: home entrances, cornucopia and scarecrows.
Children try their hands at making soaps, baking miniature pies, planting seedlings and playing in a simulated worm maze.
The show includes a quilt gallery, apple exhibit and children's workshop.
