Miami room, board to rise 4.5%
The Associated Press
OXFORD, Ohio Miami University's board of trustees voted Friday to increase room and board rates for the 2000-2001 academic year by 4.5 percent.
The rates still will be the lowest among Ohio's state-assisted universities, said Richard Norman, Miami's vice president for finance and business services.
The annual cost of room and board for most first-year students, now set at $5,330, will be $5,570 next year.
Mr. Norman said the increase resulted from the effect of inflation on the expense of operating and maintaining 36 residence halls and seven dining halls.
Room and board rates traditionally are set a year in advance so current students can compare costs as they look into next year's options for housing on and off campus, university officials said.
