Driver accused of attacks on police
A Westwood man stopped for a traffic violation was held Sunday without bond after Cincinnati police said he fled, then punched and kicked an officer during his arrest.
Warrants previously had been issued for Carlos Taylor, 26, of the 2800 block of Harrison Avenue, on charges of felonious assault, domestic violence, contempt of court and having improper lights on his vehicle.
Mr. Taylor was stopped by a District 3 officer at 2:31 a.m. Sunday in the 2500 block of Harrison and fled on foot.
When police caught him, police said, he punched one officer in the chest and side of the head, then ran toward Goebel Avenue.
When he was apprehended on Bracken Woods Lane, Mr. Taylor kicked the officer in the left side of the chest, according to his arrest report.
Eventually, police said, Mr. Taylor was subdued and charged with assault, resisting arrest, obstructing official business, driving without a license, driving without a seat belt, and a license plate violation. It was then that police learned of the outstanding warrants.
Woman hit by car wrongly identified
Cincinnati police said Sunday they incorrectly identified a woman who died early Saturday after she was hit by a car while crossing a West End street.
Vivian Roper, 44, of Over-the-Rhine, was pronounced dead shortly after the 2:20 a.m. accident near 1900 Linn St. Her identity was confirmed through fingerprints, according to the Hamilton County coroner's office.
Police on Saturday mistakenly identified the victim as Lareen Washington, 41, of the West End.
Police arrested Otis Hill, 30, of Westwood. He was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, felony leaving the scene, and driving with a suspended license.
Witnesses are asked to contact the police traffic division, 352-2514.
